When you use your debit card without entering your PIN, you earn rewards. This means anything you buy online using your debit card, and anytime you are at a register and choose “credit” instead of “debit” you’ll earn rewards.

Either way, the money is withdrawn from your checking account; you are not borrowing on credit, even if you choose that option. Selecting “credit” when making purchases with your debit card means you want to use the Visa payment network that can handle credit or debit card purchases.

A non-PIN purchase is when you swipe your debit card and choose “credit” even though you are paying using the funds in your checking account. Selecting “credit” when making purchases with your debit card means you want to use the Visa payment network that can handle credit or debit card purchases. More importantly it means you are earning rewards.

In addition to choosing credit, there are other non-PIN purchases. Here is a complete list of non-PIN purchases that will earn you rewards when you use your debit card:

• Any purchase that you sign for
• Any purchase where you swipe your debit card and do not enter your PIN
• Purchases made on the internet
• Phone and mail order purchases
• Paying bills like your wireless bill, electricity bill, rent or other transactions

A good rule of thumb is a pretty straight forward one: if you make a purchase with your debit card and you don’t enter your PIN to complete the purchase, you will be earning perks on that transaction.

You can always request that they cancel the selection and allow you to select “credit” to make the payment. Selecting “credit” when making purchases with your debit card means you are using the Visa payment network that can handle credit or debit card purchases. More importantly it means you are earning rewards.

No. You can earn rewards no matter what balance you maintain.

However, keeping a higher balance does allow you to earn more rewards. When you start the day with a Current Account Balance of $5,000 or more you'll earn 2% cash back (vs. 1% for lower balances) or the equivalent in free coffee or music. No matter what, no bank gives you more debit card rewards than PerkStreet.

Absolutely. You can change the reward that you earn online anytime and as often as you wish. When you switch, all of your rewards will be converted at full value so you won’t lose any of the rewards you’ve accumulated when you switch rewards.

It depends on which reward you choose, but it should take no longer than three business days for Perkstreet to process and send out your rewards. How quickly it gets to you depends on how it was sent.

For music rewards, we’ll send you an email with a code for you to redeem your rewards for Rhapsody®. For Amazon.com® we'll send you an email with a Gift Card Code. If you choose iTunes®, we’ll send you a gift card in the mail.

For coffee rewards, if you already have a Starbucks® or Peet’s Coffee and Tea® card, we will load the value of your redeemed coffee rewards onto the card. You can also choose to have Perkstreet send you a Starbucks® or Peet’s® card.

If you choose Dunkin’ Donuts® or Bruegger’s®, we will send you a gift card in the mail.

For the cash back rewards, if you choose to receive a Visa gift card or a gift card from Best Buy®, Target®, Ticketmaster® or GAP we'll mail you a gift card. If you choose Amazon.com® we'll email you a Gift Card Code.
